Sterling Silver vs. 18k Gold Vermeil: Which Jewelry Is Right for You?

When choosing handmade jewelry, one of the first questions is usually about the metal. At Camila D. Daneri, we work with two: 925 sterling silver and 18k gold vermeil. Here's what makes each one special — and how to choose.

925 Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is composed of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals (usually copper), which gives it durability without compromising its natural, cool-toned brilliance. It's the material we use most at Camila D. Daneri — organic in texture, beautiful with gemstones, and built to last a lifetime with minimal care.

Sterling silver develops a natural patina over time that many people love. A quick polish with a soft cloth brings it back to its original shine.

18k Gold Vermeil

Gold vermeil is sterling silver with a thick layer of 18k gold plated over it — making it much more durable and rich in color than standard gold-plated jewelry. All our vermeil pieces are nickel-free, making them a great option for sensitive skin.

The warm tone of gold vermeil pairs beautifully with stones like lab-grown citrine, champagne quartz, and prasiolite — giving pieces a sculptural, sun-lit quality.

How to Care for Your Pieces

  • Store in a dry place, away from direct sunlight
  • Remove before swimming, showering, or applying perfume
  • Clean gently with a soft cloth
  • Sterling silver can be polished with a silver cloth to restore shine

Our Gemstones

Whether silver or gold, our pieces are set with carefully chosen stones — natural gems like opal, aquamarine, labradorite, and garnet, alongside lab-grown options such as emerald, sapphire, and moissanite. Lab-grown stones are chemically identical to natural ones, with exceptional clarity and a lower environmental impact.

Each stone is selected for how it interacts with light — not just its colour, but its depth, texture, and presence on the skin.
